Renting a bike is easy!
When you would like to cycle on the Costa Blanca, you can bring your own bike. But why go through the hassle of having to disassemble your bike in order to fit it into a flight case? Let alone running the risks of damaging or even losing your precious bike during air transport. And perhaps you would like go out for MTB rides on your holiday as well as some trips on the road bike. Treat yourself therefore to the convenience of a rental mountain bike of Snakebite.
Hardtail = hard core fun
We chose to go with hard tail MTBs as these offer the best value for money experience. On all our guided XC trails we ride a hardtail ourselves and it is a lot of fun. Frames are made of aluminium.
Brands
Like many, we struggled to get new bikes in 2020 and 2021. Fortunately, we were able to renew almost half of the fleet in 2022. We opted for the Giant Talon 0, a reliable bike and good value for money. In addition to the Giants, we have Conor / WRC bikes. Conor is a Spanish brand from Navarra (Northwestern Spain) with a strong focus on mountain biking. This bicycle brand is hardly known outside Spain, but our customers are very satisfied with these bikes.
Wheelsize
After having experimented with both 27.5'' (650B) wheels and 29'ers we believe (for a hardtail) the 29er is the choice for our terrain. It makes rolling over rocks so much easier and there is almost no loss of agility compared to the 27,5". And since during most of our rides we cover some road surface, the big wheels have a bigger rolling advantage as well.
Groupset / drivetrain
All our bikes now have a single groupset (one chainring at the front). The Giants are equipped with a 1 x 12 drive from the Shimano Deore line. The Conors / WRCs are equipped with SRAM NX (1 x 12) or Shimano SLX (1 x 11).
Tires
Spanish natural trails can sometimes be challenging for the tires. Sharp stones lurk here and there next to thorn bushes. It is not without reason that we chose the name "Snakebite" (= double puncture as a result of hitting something hard). To fully enjoy your mountain bike rides, our mountain bikes are fitted with inner tubes filled with a sealant. These help as much as possible to prevent a leak. Because punctures can never be prevented, every tenant gets a multi-tool, spare inner tube and mini pump.
Pedals
We offer a choice between SPD (clip-in) pedals and flat (platform) pedals. Though we have a limited number of rental shoes and helmets available, bikers are advised to bring their own shoes, helmet and biking clothes.
